IT'S TIME! Have you heard the news? I am posting this giveaway a few days late since I have been busy packing. The
Curriculum Clean-Out hosted by Jolanthe at Homeschool Creations has begun! This is my first time participating and I am very excited about listing my
very first giveaway. Please help make it a success. God has blessed my family in so many ways this year and this is one way that I can give back to homeschooling families. My house sold in less than three weeks and I have started frantically rummaging through my homeschool items in preparation for the fall year. I can't go through everything in time for this clean-out but I did find a special gem to pass on to another family since I have two copies.
Today I offer
"The Light and the Glory for Children" written by
Peter Marshall and David Manuel to one of my readers. This book exposes children ages 9-12 to the aspects of American History. It explains God's plan for America and how he worked through the founders of America between 1492-1789. I currently use this book as a read aloud for my 4 1/2 year old daughter, so please don't let the age detour you from entering this giveaway. I read short segments to her during our lessons. This is a
used book but it is in very good condition. There is a sale price noted and a black marker line on the inside of the back cover. There is also a small stain on the first page. The book does not contain any other writing or highlighting that I could find. It does have a slight musky smell from storage. It is often used in conjunction with the Beautiful Feet Early American History Primary curriculum or TruthQuest American History I - two wonderful American History curriculums! I feel this book is a great way to expose our children to American History with a Christian perspective.

We haven't done a huge amount of American History yet. I am trying to find some more interesting ways of doing it. Like interesting books, etc
ReplyDeleteWe went through early American history this past year using MFW Adventures for my 8, 7, and 5 year old. In the future we will do it again, they forget so much at this age. :)
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in My Father's World Adventures - it seems like a great program to teach history. I have heard that you can use it for two years in row - more depending on the child's age. Have you blogged about your experiences with it?

This will be my first attempt teaching American History throughout the year with my daughter. We will be using the same curriculum that you are using with additional resources. I still have to check our library for the books - I hope they are readily available.

I LOVE living books!!!! I didn't realize there were so many interesting and wonderful books out there to teach history while maintaining the child's attention and allowing them to use their imagination.
DeleteMy daughter LOVES history! We started using TruthQuest American History - some great "living" book lists on each topic of American history, and we use DVDs too.

Yah! I came across TruthQuest on Ebay for a reasonable price. I will use it with Beautiful Feet to teach American History this year. I can't wait.
DeleteI am a history NUT! I enjoy teaching American History using Unit studies and there are several living books that we utilize. American History Stories, Volume 1 - 4 by: Mara L. Pratt and we LOVE Jean Fritz books!

ReplyDeleteMy older daughter just turned four, so we're all about colorful, well-illustrated narratives that make history come alive. Two of our favorites are Usborne's Then and Now and DK's A Street Through Time.
ReplyDeleteThe book in this giveaway does not contain colorful illustrations. In fact there are very few if any. I use it as a read aloud - reading parts of it in segments to my daughter. But, we do love history books that are colorful and tell stories of the past. Usborne and DK books are wonderful resources. We don't own many ... we usually borrow them from the library.
DeleteWe use MFW and went through Adventures 2 year ago. We also read a lot of living history books. Our girls are 9, 6 & 4, with two boys ages 2 & 2 months.

ReplyDeleteThis curriculum is amazing! I love how the activities are differentiated by age groups. Do you blog? I would love to read about your experiences with it. We may use it for world history but I haven't quite made a final decision about world history yet.

I haven't starting teaching it yet to my son. He is just going to be a first grader this year. I was going to start teaching him it this year.

ReplyDeleteI haven't started teaching American History to my kids, yet. I am planning on using a timeline so that they can see how all aspects of history interact - Biblical, American, European, Asian, etc.

ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great book! My son is 4 1/2 and his Daddy is a Marine, so we talk about how great America is a lot. I havent found a way to explain it to him to his satisfaction though, and this book might just fit the bill.
