Popular Chapter Books for Girls

The next blog cruise topic for The Schoolhouse Review Crew is Summer Reading for Girls. One of the things we enjoy doing every summer is participating in summer reading programs in our area. My little bookworm of a daughter tends to get lost in books more often during this time period. Alyssa is an avid reader. She will read her favorite chapter books just about anywhere . . . in her closet, at the beach, in the car, at the store, on top of the dryer, on the countertops, to Bailey (the dog) at the library, at the table, on her bed, outside, and even upside-down on the couch. I wanted to feature a list of her favorite chapter book titles.

We already read several of the books mentioned in the list. There's no way we'll get through all of the books during the summer months, because several series contain numerous books. I believe this list is a great place for us to start! I hope you will also find this list of chapter books useful. A handful of these books were popular when I taught second and third grade in the public school system. May your summer be full of reading enjoyment and entertainment!

We just checked out Ereth's birthday yesterday, because she finished Poppy and Rye last week as well.

3.) Sonrise Stable Horse Book Series
We loved reading Rosie and Scamper! My daughter enjoyed this book and we hope our library will soon carry the entire series. We received our e-book copy free through Educents. The Educents free e-book deal is over but you can read about the beginning of our experience with the book here.

4.) Circle C Adventures: Wholesome Books for Kids by Susan K. Marlow

Our library finally started carrying the Circle C Beginnings: The Adventures of Andi and Taffy series for children ages 6-9. My daughter has read and LOVED all of the books! Check out the coloring pages, lapbooks, paper dolls, and free activities to go with this series.

5.) The Little House of the Prairie Book Series
I hope to start reading this series aloud this summer. Alyssa developed an interest in reading them after we reviewed Diana Waring's Experience History Through Music set. You can find a complete Little House on the Prairie lapbook set at Marine Corps Nomads created by an amazing blogger named Heather. What an awesome blessing to us all.

6.) The Magic Tree House and The Magic School Bus

I am not going to list this entire series, but we choose books based on Alyssa's interest or topics we are studying. Have you seen the Magic Tree House Classroom Adventures program? My Library and Passport is a great way to track your child's progress through the series. The Teacher's Club Resource Center contains teaching guides for you reading journeys. You'll find a photo of the first book below so you can get started soon. This was a very popular children's series when I taught at a public school. Some books may contain content about evolution. My daughter loves the the books series and enjoys watching The Magic School Bus Complete DVD Collection. She learns a lot when reading and viewing the shows.

7.) Elsie Dinsmore Series
This old-fashioned Christian series is new in our home, but has captured my six-year-old daughter's attention. This series is great for teaching Godly character traits and obedience. 

8.) The American Girl Books
My daughter watched an American Girl movie called McKenna Shoots for the Stars which sparked her interest in reading this series after I told her the several of the books were available in some libraries. I am hoping we'll be able to borrow Saige from the library.

9.) Pony Pals Book Series written by Jeanne Betancourt
This link provides you with more information about books suitable for different age ranges. Club Pony Pals may be of interest if your children are horse lovers and enjoy this series.

10.) Cam Jansen Mysteries written by David A. Adler. Study guides are available for several book titles. 

11.) Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown
Have you seen the Official Flat Stanley Project? There are Curriculum Ideas and Flat Stanley Templates? This is a fun series I am sure your child will enjoy reading. 

12.) Ramona Series written by Beverly Cleary

Have you met Ramona? I use these books to discuss behavior and good character traits. Ramona tends to get in a lot of trouble. We have DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read) for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. Alyssa recently started this series. The teaching guide may be helpful as you read aloud the books. The first book Alyssa read from this series was Beezus and Ramona, because we watched the movie as a family.  

13.) Judy Moody Book Series

14.) Amber Brown Series written by Paula Danziger
Good Reads lists the book titles in this series. This book series addresses the struggles and life of a young girl whose parents are divorced.

15.) Charlotte's Web by E.B. White

E.B. White is an author of many award-winning books. These children's books are a delight to read.
