Thai Elephant Geography Craft Project

Our featured Let's Go Geography craft this week is the Thai Elephant. Elephants are extremely important to the Thailand culture. They were used for heavy lifting jobs and today tourists are entertained by elephant rides. A white elephant was displayed on Thailand's flag for many, many years.

For this craft, we gathered supplies such as white cardstock, scissors, clue stick, gray cardstock, and colored pencils. First, I printed the elephant pattern on the gray paper from the Printables section. Then, the blanket for the elephant was printed on the white paper. Next, Alyssa cut and folded the elephant template so that it would be 3D and stand up. She colored the blanket and chair. The author encourages the child to color it red with gold edges. The next step was to cut and fold the blanket downward. She glued it to the middle of the elephant's back. After coloring the reverse side of the chair, it was cut and folded upward in a box shape in order to create a seat. My daughter glued the box seat to the blanket. The final step was to write Thailand on the elephant.
