Inexpensive Valentine's Day Countdown

I wanted to share our simple, inexpensive Valentine's Day Countdown. This countdown activity is for the 14 days leading up to Valentine's Day.

I dug through my math box and found this white ice cube tray. I used it for basic introductory math activities when Alyssa was much younger. We purchased a bag of Valentine's Day Hershey Kisses. Use a coupon if possible when on sale. I am hoping to purchase Valentine's Day candy AFTER at the end of February when it is on sale 50-90% off. I can give candy treats as part of an anniversary treat later or even use it to spontaneously leave love treats throughout the next couple months.

I cut two small felt hearts using scrape pieces to fill in the extra spaces. Every day Alyssa receives a piece of candy with a great big hug and kiss from me. I wanted to do something sweet for her since I was planning a countdown for my hubby. She appreciates and loves this activity. As you can see . . . I alternated the candy wrapper colors to create a ABC pattern. You can use any pattern you want to reinforce math skills while celebrating your love for one another.

If you don't have an once cube tray, you could cut out a large heart shape and tape the candy pieces on it. I can think of several ways to change up this activity, but I am keeping' it simple this year.

Did you make a Valentine's Day countdown?
Would you be willing to share your ideas with us?
