Curricula Series 2013-2014: Science

Science Choices
I have been waiting to share our science curriculum with you until today. I changed my plans as soon as I found out that we will be reviewing a brand new science curriculum. I am thrilled that I made the review list for this set! I am excited and a little nervous about this new adventure. Here are our science curricula choices for this year.

Core Curricula
We will be using this curriculum at least four times a week.
Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics

Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Physics Junior Notebooking Journal

Core Supplement
Knowledge Box Central Lapbook
I purchased the following lapbook on sale and with a coupon code so that I could add even more hands-on activities to our week. My daughter truly enjoys lap booking so I thought it would be beneficial to add this one to her daily or weekly assignments. Hopefully, we'll be able to squeeze in a few activities.

Other Supplements
I will use the following supplements when appropriate and if we have extra time.

1.) The Happy Scientist Online Subscription (expires in April)
2.) Magic School Bus DVD Videos
I purchased our complete set for under $8 so check for price drops often. My daughter watches these during movie night, when traveling in the car, and during her free time. There are many videos she can view covering chemistry and physics topics.

3.) Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool Chemistry and Physics

4.) Science Experiments in a Bag: Chemistry
I received this book free years ago by participating in a online webinar. I hope to utilize this resource this year. It includes 25 simple chemistry experiments.

5.) Discovering Education Plus
I finally broke down and invested in this tool as a supplement to our homeschool studies. It is currently available at the lowest price I have ever seen it through the Homeschool Buyers Coop. Click on the link above to read an older post I wrote about this particular product and about joining the HSBC for free. Please join through one of my links should you decide to participate and save more money this year, because I receive SmartPoints for my daughter's curricula. By the way, I am not currently an affiliate for the company.

6.) Simple Schooling Classroom
We are LOVING this resource! I am glad that I bought our subscriptions while they were available on sale. The website and subscriptions are currently being updated. This is a great tool to use for delight-directed learning and unit study approaches. Check out just a few of the studies Alyssa will complete this year. I hope to use these studies in conjunction with the concepts studied using her core curriculum.

Alyssa will also complete a variety of Life Science and Classic Nature Study units from this website during her free time! She started using this resource this summer. She already has several printed certificates for completed units. I love that she is learning sooooo much from these interactive lessons.
